2026 Spring Program Schedule

Our Spring 2026 program schedule offers a diverse range of opportunities for students of all ages and skill levels to explore their artistic voices. Unless otherwise noted, all weekly classes are held in the annex at Jerusalem Baptist Church, located at 2600 P St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Private Music Lessons: Voice, Piano, or Violin

Discover the joy of music through personalized one-on-one instruction in voice, piano, or violin. Our experienced instructors tailor each lesson to the student’s age, interests, and skill level—whether beginner or advanced. Over the course of 10 weekly sessions, students build strong foundational skills, explore new techniques, and grow in confidence and creativity. These lessons offer an encouraging environment where students can develop at their own pace and connect their musical learning to personal expression, cultural heritage, and community.

Tuition Rate:

Private lessons may be offered in-person or virtually.
Please indicate your preference — in-person, virtual, or no preference — in the “Notes” section when completing your registration.  After your registration is received, your assigned instructor will contact you directly to confirm your lesson time and discuss any special arrangements.


Spring Courses (Weekly, 55 minutes)

Unless otherwise specified, all classes will take place in the annex at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2600 P Street NW, Washington, DC 20007.  Weekday classes include an optional “Study & Refresh Hour” (4:00–5:00 p.m.) for early arrivals before 5pm class begins.

Voices United: Group Vocal Ensemble

Raise your voice in harmony with others in this engaging, joyful group class designed to build vocal technique, performance skills, and musical confidence. Students will learn breath control, pitch, diction, and expression while singing songs that reflect our shared cultural heritage and contemporary influences. This class is perfect for young singers eager to explore their voice in a positive, affirming community.

Lift Every Voice: Foundations in Creative Writing

Discover the power of your voice through storytelling. This interactive course introduces students to the core elements of creative writing—including character, setting, dialogue, and plot—while exploring poetry, short stories, and scriptwriting. Inspired by the legacy of James Weldon Johnson, participants will read diverse writers, reflect on their own experiences, and develop original work in a supportive, collaborative space. Whether you’re new to writing or looking to sharpen your skills, this class will help you build confidence, unlock creativity, and tell the stories only you can tell.

Story Builders: Creative Writing for Curious Minds

Want to become a confident and creative writer? This class teaches young storytellers how to turn ideas into exciting narratives. We’ll cover key writing elements like story structure, dialogue, descriptive language, and pacing—while trying out different genres like poetry, adventure tales, and short plays. With fun writing prompts and peer sharing, students will build their skills, boost their confidence, and walk away proud of their original creations.

Art Lab: Draw, Paint & Design

Unleash your creativity in this all-in-one visual arts class! You’ll explore drawing techniques, experiment with watercolor and create custom designs for posters, t-shirts, and more. Whether you’re sketching from life or creating from imagination, Art Lab is the perfect space to explore your artistic voice and build your skills across multiple mediums.

Creative Legacy Lab: Writing Your Story, Your Way

Everyone has a story worth telling. In this guided creative writing and storytelling workshop, you’ll reflect on life experiences, memories, and values through poetry, memoir, and creative expression. With support from a JWJCSA instructor and guest teaching artists, you’ll develop your own short stories, essays, or poems. The program ends with a community showcase or printed collection of participants’ work. No prior writing experience needed—just bring your voice!
